Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy

The Commissioner of Children and Young People Leanne McLean today welcomed Premier Peter Gutwein’s announcement to fund Tasmania’s first-ever, comprehensive, long-term Wholeof-Government Child and Youth Wellbeing Strategy.

“Investing in the wellbeing of children and young people not only upholds their rights under the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child but also provides the foundation for prosperity for all Tasmanians, irrespective of age,” Ms McLean said, in response to the Premier’s State of the State address.

“In particular, I welcome the breadth of the strategy, targeting children and young people aged 0 to 25 years and the emphasis on the importance of the first 1000 days of a child’s life to their development and future wellbeing.

“Today’s announcement is terrific news for the children and young people of Tasmania.

“I eagerly await further details of the planned strategy and investment and look forward to working with the Government and other stakeholders to improve the wellbeing of Tasmania’s children and young people.”
