New Commission Focus Groups Consent Form

Hi! My name is Isabelle Crompton, and I am the Interim Commissioner for Children and Young People.

The Tasmanian Government is creating a team of people called a “Commission” to stand up for the rights and wellbeing of all children and young people to make sure they have a good life.

I want to hear from you about your views and ideas for how this new team should work and I will make sure the Government knows what you have to say.

Being involved in the project

If you are a young person between the ages of 12- 21 years, I’d like to hear from you!

Choosing to take part in a focus group is optional.

What’s involved in taking part in a focus group?

A focus group is like a brainstorming session where a few people get together to talk about something important. Someone leads the group and asks questions to hear what everyone thinks. The goal is to learn from everyone’s ideas.

This project will involve you attending one focus group for an hour and a half.

There are three options for focus groups. You only need to attend one focus group.

  • Hobart: 18 November, 4:30pm – 6pm, Commissioner for Children and Young People Office 119 Macquarie Street OR
  • Launceston: 20 November, 4:30pm – 6pm, Launceston Library OR
  • Online: 19 November, 4:30pm – 6pm, via Zoom

At the focus group we will get to know each other, have some snacks and discuss your views and ideas about the new Commission for Children and Young People.

My team and I will collect your views and ideas, and I will make sure the government hears them.

The benefits of the project

  • You will have the opportunity to have a say about what the new Commission for Children and Young People should be like.
  • You will receive a certificate from the Interim Commissioner for Children and Young People recognising your contribution.
  • You will receive a $40 gift voucher at the end of the focus group as a thank you for participating.

The potential risks of the project

  • Thinking and talking about the challenges facing children and young people in Tasmania and how we can make their lives better, can be tricky.
  • If you feel uncomfortable or upset, we will make sure you know where to get support.
  • If you decide that participating in the focus group is not for you, you can leave at any time.

What will happen with your views and ideas?

Your views and ideas will help me and my team to help make sure the government knows what matters to children and young people as they create the new Commission.

The views and ideas that you share in the focus groups will be audio recorded and written down and stored in a secure place.

We will share your views about the new Commission, but you will not be identified or identifiable in any publication.

Audio recordings will be kept confidential and will only be used to check that no mistakes are made in writing down what you say.

Privacy and confidentiality

We will work together at the beginning of the workshop to decide how we will respect each other’s privacy and confidentiality.

I will not use your real name in anything we publish, unless you ask me to.

The only time we might have to share real names is if we are worried about your safety or the safety of someone else.

If this happens, we will talk with you.

If you would like to attend a focus group, please complete the consent form below.
